Boston Legacy FC (the “Club”) is Boston’s new professional women’s soccer team, set to begin play in the National Women’s Soccer League in 2026. The Role

At Boston Legacy FC, we are committed to building a world-class performance environment that supports our female athletes in achieving peak physical potential and long-term health. The Performance Therapist will play a central role within the integrated medical and performance team, leading all aspects of return-to-play (RTP) strategy and execution. This individual will oversee the design, coordination, and delivery of a systematic rehabilitation processes following injury—ensuring consistency, quality, and alignment with the club’s performance philosophy. Working closely with medical, performance, and coaching staff, the Performance Therapist will help athletes return to competition efficiently, safely, and ready to perform at the highest levels of intensity and physicality demanded by the game.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery and oversight of the full rehabilitation process for all injuries, ensuring an evidence-informed and athlete-centered approach.
  • Design, refine, and implement structured return-to-play (RTP) phases that align with the club’s medical and performance frameworks.
  • Coordinate and lead multidisciplinary meetings to review player status, align on RTP goals, and determine next steps at regular and timely intervals.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of rehabilitation programming through ongoing monitoring, review, and adjustment based on athlete progress and objective data.
  • Manage any off-site or specialist care included within the RTP process, ensuring seamless communication and continuity of care.
  • Systematically assess player progression through performance testing and monitoring using contemporary technologies and validated methods.
  • Lead the integration and dissemination of relevant, evidence-based sports medicine and performance research to staff through periodic in-services and collaborative education.
  • Provide regular and concise updates on player rehabilitation status and timelines to senior management, as directed by the Director of Player Health.
  • Develop holistic rehabilitation plans that address physical, psychological, and nutritional aspects of recovery, collaborating with appropriate team specialists.
  • Maintain all documentation—including evaluations, progress notes, plans of care, and discharge summaries—in the League’s Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system and internal club databases.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards regarding blood-borne pathogens and maintain professional liability insurance.
  • Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and communication skills in working with players, coaches, and interdisciplinary staff.
  • Comply with all League, state, and federal regulations, including professional practice standards and team medical policies (e.g., informed consent, medication management, etc.).
  • Attend team events, meetings, and programs as required by the League or club.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall health, performance, and success of the athletes and team.

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum four (4) years’ college/university bachelor’s degree
  • Master’s degree (MPT) or Doctor of Physical Therapy degree (DPT)
  • State license in Massachusetts or ability to be licensed in a timely manner.
  • In good standing with Massachusetts or the current state licensure board.
  • CPR certification in Basic Life Support
  • Boarded certified as a Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS)
  • Additional recommended certifications: Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS), BOC Certified Athletic Trainer, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Corrective Exercise Specialization (NASM-CES) and/or Performance Enhancement Specialization (NASM-PES).
  • Minimum four (4) years’ experience as a physical therapist since receiving licensure.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a similar role in a team sports environment leading RTP for elite-level athletes (i.e. Professional, Olympic)
  • Soccer experience preferred.
  • Demonstrates a systematic approach to return to play
  • Utilizes data and sports science technologies as objective markers in the RTP process
