Overview of Brooklyn Football Club Brooklyn FC is defining the future of soccer in America. In 2024, Brooklyn played in its inaugural season of the USL Super League team and in 2026 will launch a USL Championship team. We represent the 77 neighborhoods in the Brooklyn borough and are dedicated to uplifting our community through our global sport. This position is specifically for the 2026 USL Championship season.

Position Title: First Team Assistant Coach
Position Type: Full-Time
Pay Rate - $70,000 - $75,000

Position Overview

The Assistant Coach plays a key role in supporting the Head Coach and technical staff across all aspects of team preparation, player development, and performance delivery. This position is instrumental in implementing and reinforcing the club’s playing philosophy, ensuring that daily training sessions, match preparation, and overall team operations consistently align with Brooklyn FC’s sporting objectives.

Working collaboratively with coaching, performance, medical, and operational departments, the Assistant Coach contributes to optimizing individual and team performance, fostering player growth, and upholding a professional, competitive, and high-performance team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Coaching & Player Development
  • Assist in the planning, design, and delivery of all team training sessions in alignment with the club’s playing philosophy, tactical model, and performance objectives.
  • Deliver high-level technical and tactical coaching during training sessions and matches, ensuring consistent execution of the team’s game plan.

  • Support the Head Coach in the development and implementation of weekly, monthly, and seasonal training cycles, including physical preparation and tactical progression.

  • Provide individualized feedback to players to enhance technical proficiency, decision-making, and tactical awareness.

  • Monitor player development and workload, collaborating closely with performance and medical staff to ensure optimal player readiness and availability.
2. Match Preparation & Game Support

  • Attend and actively contribute to all home, away, and exhibition matches.

  • Support the Head Coach in comprehensive match preparation, including tactical planning, opponent analysis, and set-piece organization.

  • Assist with in-game decision-making, player management, substitutions, and halftime adjustments.

  • Contribute to post-match analysis and review sessions to identify key insights, performance trends, and development areas.

3. Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with the Head Coach to ensure clear communication of tactical, operational, and performance expectations to players and staff.

  • Maintain professional, effective communication across all departments, including performance, analysis, medical, and operations staff.

  • Participate in regular staff meetings to review team progress, planning cycles, and performance objectives.

  • Collaborate with the Goalkeeper Coach and Performance Staff to ensure training content, physical demands, and recovery protocols align with team goals.

4. Leadership & Staff Development

  • Support the recruitment, retention, and development of high-quality coaching and support staff in alignment with the club’s long-term vision.

  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to developing coaches and staff members.

  • Uphold and reinforce professional standards within the coaching environment, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence.

5. Player Recruitment & Evaluation

  • Assist in player scouting, evaluations, and trial processes, providing informed input on player performance, potential, and suitability within the club’s playing style.

  • Support management and recruitment staff in identifying talent for both immediate needs and long-term development pathways.

  • Contribute to player assessments and individualized development plans using performance data, video analysis, and observational insights.

6. Club & Community Engagement

  • Represent Brooklyn FC in a positive and professional manner at community events, coaching clinics, and media activities as requested by the Head Coach or Sporting Director.

  • Support club management in coordinating player involvement in youth programs, public appearances, and broader club initiatives.

  • Foster strong connections between the First Team and the local community while promoting the club’s values, identity, and culture.

7. Professionalism & Work Ethic

  • Maintain the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, discretion, and confidentiality at all times.

  • Demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and a strong work ethic, including availability for evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as required by the team schedule.

  • Promote a positive, disciplined, and competitive training and matchday environment.

  • Perform all additional duties as assigned by the Head Coach, Sporting Director, or club management.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a current USSF B License or higher.

  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years of coaching experience at the professional level and/or within an NCAA Division I university program.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement training sessions aligned with a defined playing philosophy and tactical model.

  • Strong knowledge of modern coaching methodologies, player development principles, and performance optimization.

  • Experience working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary high-performance environment, including performance, medical, and analysis staff.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

  • Proven ability to mentor players and contribute positively to team culture and standards.

  • Willingness and ability to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
