About Tampa Bay Sun FC
Tampa Bay Sun FC is Tampa’s first major women’s professional sports team. We are building more than a football club — we are building a movement rooted in competitive excellence, community connection, and leadership in women’s sports.

Our vision is to become a best-in-class professional club, connected with our community–particularly in Ybor City–and a strong voice for women’s sports in Tampa Bay and beyond. We are in a critical growth phase, and marketing leadership will play a defining role in shaping the trajectory of this organization.

Position Overview
The Director of Marketing & Communications is responsible for building and executing an integrated marketing and communications strategy that drives measurable revenue growth, strengthens brand equity, and deepens community connection.
Reporting to the President, this role oversees brand strategy, paid and earned media, grassroots activation, fan engagement, and communications efforts.

This position operates within a lean team and disciplined budget environment. The successful candidate must be comfortable setting strategy while also executing tactically, prioritizing effectively, and maximizing impact through thoughtful resource allocation, while leveraging data analytics to measure ROI.

We are seeking a strategic builder — someone who combines creative brand thinking with operational rigor, fiscal discipline, and strong cross-department collaboration.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Marketing & Revenue Impact
  • Develop and execute a 12-month integrated marketing and communications plan aligned with ticket revenue and organizational KPIs
  • Design and lead revenue-generating campaigns, including single-match tickets, season tickets, group sales, theme nights, and promotions
  • Build evergreen and lead-generation programs to grow the fan base
  • Establish clear performance benchmarks and regularly report results to leadership
  • Integrate both evergreen and themed merchandise into broader marketing and revenue-generating campaigns.
Success is measured by revenue growth, fan acquisition, brand awareness, and organizational impact.

Budget Ownership & Fiscal Discipline
  • Develop, manage, and adhere to the departmental budget
  • Forecast spend accurately and allocate resources strategically
  • Evaluate ROI across paid, earned, and organic media, events, grassroots initiatives, and promotional efforts
  • Proactively adjust campaigns to optimize performance within approved budget parameters
Financial discipline and responsible stewardship of resources are essential.

Project Management & Execution
  • Build clear campaign briefs, timelines, and workflows
  • Deliver marketing initiatives on time and within budget
  • Create internal systems that support scale and operational efficiency
  • Maintain strong organization in a fast-paced sports environment
Leverage data analytics tools to measure reach, engagement, and revenue conversion rates

Cross-Department Collaboration
  • Partner closely with Ticket Sales, Corporate Partnerships, Operations, and the Tampa Bay Sun Foundation
  • Align marketing initiatives with sales and sponsorship priorities
  • Participate as a collaborative and solutions-oriented member of the leadership team
  • Support theme nights, promotional events, and game-day activations
Collaboration and communication across departments are critical to success in this role.

Brand & Communications Leadership
  • Oversee brand positioning and ensure consistency across all touchpoints
  • Manage local media relations and press communications
  • Develop and execute paid media strategies (TV, OOH, radio, print, digital) aligned with revenue goals
  • Lead grassroots and community-based marketing initiatives
  • Oversee promotional items, giveaways, and fan engagement programs

Team Leadership & Delegation
  • Lead and develop marketing staff and external partners
  • Delegate effectively while maintaining strategic oversight
  • Foster accountability, professionalism, and performance standards within the department
This role requires someone who can elevate others while maintaining clear direction.

Qualifications
Experience
  • 5–8 years of progressive marketing experience with increasing leadership responsibility
  • Demonstrated success leading revenue-generating marketing initiatives
  • Experience leveraging data analytics tools to measure marketing outcomes
  • Experience managing defined marketing budgets with measurable ROI
  • Experience operating in lean, high-growth, or startup environments strongly preferred
  • Prior experience in sports, live events, or consumer brands is a plus
We are less concerned with years of experience and more concerned with demonstrated capability, discipline, and results.

Core Competencies
  • Strategic thinking with hands-on execution capability
  • Strong financial discipline and comfort operating within constrained budgets
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and build trust
  • Data-driven decision-making mindset
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced, evolving sports environment
