Job Summary: As the Merchandise Inventory Accountant, you will oversee LOVB’s financial aspects of inventory for the merchandising operations of the company. This role ensures accurate valuation, reporting, and control of inventory balances, supports month-end close activities, analyzes cost of goods sold (COGS), and collaborates cross-functionally with teams such as Merchandising, Operations, and Finance to maintain financial integrity across all inventory processes. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Inventory Accounting & Reporting - Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts related to inventory, COGS, and related accruals.
- Track intercompany inventory movements and intercompany sales for all locations, assist with IC invoicing and COGS elimination for financial reporting.
- Ensure proper valuation of inventory, including adjustments for obsolescence, loss and cost.
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual inventory reports for management review. Support financial statement audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and responding to auditor inquiries.
- Assist with the Shopify reporting and sales tax filings from online inventory sales.
Month-End Close & Analysis - Prepare month-end journal entries related to inventory movements and monthly inventory sales.
- Analyze and explain inventory and margin variances against plan, forecast, and prior periods.
- Ensure timely and accurate closing of inventory accounts within the general ledger, assist accounting team with the month end accruals related to the inventory
Merchandise Operations - Act as the liaison between Accounting and Merchandising teams to monitor inventory levels, vendor billing accuracy and cost levels.
- Review and reconcile discrepancies between physical and systematic inventory balances.
- Participate in physical inventory counts as needed.
- Collaborate with Accounts Payable to resolve vendor invoice discrepancies related to inventory purchases, returns, and allowances.
Process Improvement & Compliance - Work with the merchandise team, and club support team to develop physical inventory count processes.
- Ensure strong internal controls and support audit activities.
- Identify opportunities for process automation, accuracy improvement, and efficiency within the inventory accounting function.
- Assist in implementing new inventory management systems and ensure financial data integrity post-implementation.
Cross-Functional Collaboration - Work with Finance, Accounting, Legal, Pro and Club Operations to support day-to-day needs.
- Assist with ad-hoc financial analysis and special projects.
Required & Preferred Skills/Abilities: - Strong understanding of GAAP and inventory accounting principles.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to produce ad-hoc reporting and insights
- Experience in process improvement and system integrations
- Excellent project management and time management skills

Education and Experience: - Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Banking, or related field preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years focused on inventory accounting or merchandising finance.
- Experience in retail, consumer goods, or manufacturing industries strongly preferred.
- Prior experience in a start-up or multi-entity environment strongly preferred
- Proficiency with ERP systems ( NetSuite preferred) and advanced Excel skills required.
