Job Overview:

The United Pickleball Association (UPA) is seeking a skilled and dynamic Accounting Manager to join our team. As an Accounting Manager, you will be responsible for managing the financial operations of the Company and ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the financial records. Your attention to detail, organizational prowess, and analytical ability will play a vital role in ensuring success.

Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting & Close: Manage the general ledger and oversee month-end and year-end close processes. Ensure accurate financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP, including revenue recognition compliance under ASC 606. Analyze financial results and provide insights on performance, trends, and variances.
  • Process Improvement & System Optimization: Drive continuous improvement initiatives across accounting processes to enhance operational efficiency, accuracy, and scalability. Optimize utilization of the ERP system to strengthen reporting, automation, and internal controls.
  • Audit & Tax Coordination: Lead and coordinate the annual external audit process, including preparation of schedules and managing auditor requests. Partner with external advisors on federal, state, and local tax filings and ensure ongoing compliance with sales and use tax, property tax, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor a small accounting team. Establish clear expectations, review work for accuracy, and foster professional development and accountability.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration & Internal Controls: Partner with other departments, such as HR, sales and operations to ensure the accurate and timely exchange of financial information. Support the identification and mitigation of financial risks and strengthen internal controls to safeguard company assets.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. CPA is highly preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with 2+ years at a public accounting firm preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including revenue recognition (ASC 606).
  • Experience supervising or mentoring accounting staff.
  • Experience with ERP systems; Sage Intacct experience a strong plus.
  • Strong internal controls mindset and experience improving accounting processes.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with strong analytical, communication, and project management skills.
