Position Summary/Objective:
The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in managing the Accounting Department, ensuring accurate and timely financial operations across the organization. This role oversees daily accounting functions, maintains internal controls, supports audits, and contributes to budget and forecasting activities. The Assistant Controller also supervises and develops accounting staff, ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with GAAP and company policies.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including A/P, A/R, general ledger maintenance, deposits, wire transfers, and expense tracking.
- Ability to handle the unique complexities of revenue streams, which may include ticket sales, sponsorships, and merchandise, ensuring they are recognized according to accounting standards.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, including month-end and quarter-end close activities.
- Maintain internal controls and safeguard organizational assets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support finance and business objectives.
- Supervise accounting staff, including training, goal-setting, performance feedback, and professional development.
- Assist in year-end audits and ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
- Develop and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Perform other responsibilities/duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles to include ASC 606
- Proficiency in accounting software to include SAP, Blackline, Concur and Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Education & Formal Training:
- Bachelor Degree with an emphasis in Accounting or Finance – required.
- CPA/CMA – preferred.
Experience:
- Five plus years within the Finance/Accounting field – required.
- Extensive technical accounting expertise.
- Skilled in interpreting and managing complex accounting topics and principles.
- Support internal audits and address technical accounting issues in coordination with the corporate support team.
- Proven leadership with a focus on fostering a collaborative and positive work culture.
Working Conditions:
- Normal office hours Monday-Friday.
- Extended hours may be required depending on the needs of the business.
- Travel up to 10% of the time based on meetings and events.
