Position Summary
We’re seeking a Senior Accountant to take ownership of day-to-day accounting operations. You will serve as the key technical accounting function at the PWHL, helping to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial records and reporting. This role is responsible for assisting general ledger operations, leading the financial close processes, and developing and maintaining thorough account reconciliations. Reporting directly to the Accounting Director, this is a great opportunity for a hands-on accountant who excels at full cycle-work, multi-entity accounting, and compliance reporting to support our continued growth and drive informed decision-making. With a small accounting team, everyone plays a meaningful role. This position offers broad exposure and hands-on experience across multiple functions, along with the opportunity to learn every aspect of the sports industry.
Key Responsibilities
General Ledger & Operational Accounting
- Design and implement a robust daily account reconciliation process for cash, accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory, and other accounts
- Perform day-to-day accounting operations, including processing journal entries and preparing balance sheet reconciliations including but not limited to cash, accounts receivable and accounts payable
- Prepare and maintain supporting schedules for financial statements and audits
- Support the implementation and optimization of accounting systems and automation tools
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Assist in developing and optimizing our monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes in accordance with U.S. GAAP
- Assist the Accounting Director to establish best practices in cash, accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring accuracy and timely posting
- Optimize and automate accounting processes and systems to improve efficiency and scalability (e.g., daily cash management, estimating accruals, credit card expense management, prepaids and leases)
Tax & Regulatory Compliance
- Assist with Canadian federal and provincial tax filings, HST/GST, and U.S. tax obligations
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA designation preferred but not required
- 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, including roles that demonstrate hands-on experience with account reconciliation
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects with minimal supervision
- Proven track record as a self-starter who can identify issues, design solutions, and implement processes proactively
- Strong problem-solving skills and resourcefulness in building accounting workflows from the ground up
- Proficiency with accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite preferred) and Excel
- Experience with API integrations, workflow automation, or ERP optimization
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills
