LOCATION: Park City, UT Center of Excellence training facility

SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE

The Director of Re-Conditioning will contribute and help facilitate the coordination of rehabilitation cases with the athletic development coaches and sports medicine staff. This role will focus on the integration of rehabilitation, performance training, and sports science strategies to address the needs of the organization’s injured athletes. This role will facilitate and implement return-to-performance processes and systems in conjunction with high performance staff to optimize athlete health, resilience, and aid in long-term competitive success.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Athlete Experience
      1. Return to Performance leadership in our athlete injury cases: be a leader with high performance staff as we move athletes through the transition of injury rehabilitation to full competitive readiness
      2. Harness experience, utilization of evidence-based strategies, application of movement and biomechanics restoration, implementation of volume and load management in individualized performance programming, and the adequate use of sports science testing tools to collect data to better inform decision making in the re-conditioning process for streamlined athlete care
      3. Serve as a connector between athletic development, sports medicine, nutrition, sport coaches, and mental performance staff to ensure a unified performance model for sustained athlete success
      4. Plan, collaborate, create, and monitor a criteria and phase-based approach to re-conditioning programing for assigned athlete injury rehabilitation cases
    2. Operational Excellence
      1. In collaboration with athletic development and sports medicine staff, work within and help standardize the organization’s return to performance rehabilitation framework
      2. Coordinate high level interdisciplinary communication with the high-performance department
      3. Demonstrate strong leadership, relationship building, and collaborative problem solving
      4. Support athletic development coaches in their assigned injury cases to bridge rehabilitation approaches into high performance training progressions
      5. Mentor and help upskill staff with the latest strength, power, movement, re-conditioning, and injury prevention strategies in conjunction with the Director of Rehabilitation and Senior Director of Athlete Health and Performance
      6. Demonstrate exceptional organizational and operational management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple athletes, projects, schedules, and timelines
      7. High level attention to detail and aiding staff in the oversite of all injury rehabilitation cases both in house and remote with the Director of Rehabilitation and Senior Director of Athlete Health and Performance
      8. Aid in the individualized creation and implementation of athlete recovery and regeneration strategies to support the return to performance and competition processes
      9. Ability to apply leadership and conflict resolution skills if needed when navigating complexities of return to performance and competition decision making
      10. Demonstrate best practices in the utilization and collection of sports science data and sports science testing tools
      11. Desire to use sports science data as a resource for informed programming and to aid in athlete centered decision making
      12. Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and innovation
      13. Implementation of a monitoring system with athletic development coaches to track injury maintenance once athletes have returned to competition
      14. Maintain detailed athlete documentation and record keeping in alignment with the high-performance departments processes and systems

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

COMPETENCIES & EXPERIENCE

    1. Minimum 10-15 years of experience as a strength and conditioning coach working with elite athletes
    2. Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, kinesiology, human performance, physiology, applied sports science, biomechanics or related field. Master’s degree preferred
    3. Industry recognized certifications preferred such as CSCS, USAW, CPSS, CPR/AED, etc
    4. Extensive experience working in a high-performance collaborative sports model
    5. Advanced knowledge of strength and conditioning principles including but not limited to force development, power training, speed development, energy system demands, tendon health, periodization, fatigue identification, injury rehabilitation, and injury risk prevention
    6. Demonstrated experience and expertise in return to sport and return to performance progressions following orthopedic and sport related injuries
    7. Strong understanding and application of sports science technologies including force plates, motion capture, VBT, isokinetic testing, heart rate monitors, GPS/wearable sensors, etc
    8. Deep understanding of load management, recovery strategies, fatigue monitoring, and injury risk mitigation in elite sport
    9. Ability to assess sports specific demands and create progressions and applications to a variety of sports
    10. Comfortable multi-tasking and executing planning for a multitude of injury cases on different timelines
    11. Proven leadership, mentoring, and management experience with direct reports or support staff
    12. High emotional intelligence with the ability to navigate sensitive athlete situations and competitive environments
    13. Strong interpersonal awareness and relationship management skills that foster trust, collaboration, and psychological safety

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ROLE:

Ability to lift and move 50lbs daily with good body mechanics
