SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE

The role of the Mogul Team Development Head Coach is essential in assisting the Moguls Development Group athletes to achieve their goals and reach the pinnacle of their careers, as well as supporting the long-term viability and success of the sport of mogul skiing in the U.S. and the world. The commitment and passion of this person will directly reflect on the long and short-term athletic goals of the program as well as the character and integrity of the staff and athletes in achieving this goal.

The Mogul Team Development Head Coach works in conjunction with the entire U.S. Ski and Snowboard coaching and program staff to help coordinate all aspects of the Mogul Development Group. This position includes responsibility for athletic and administrative duties as assigned by the Freestyle Sport Director and Mogul Team Head Coach. The Mogul Team Development Head Coach and Freestyle Development Manager work in collaboration to support the Mogul Development Group and the U.S. Development pathways.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Athlete Experience

  1. Establishes a positive environment for the athletes and coaches and works to establish a collaborative culture of mutual accountability and continuous feedback.

  2. The mogul team development head coach, in collaboration with the staff, is responsible for establishing expectations of athletes and staff in adhering to the values, culture, and expectations associated with the team and organization.

  3. Ensure training and competition plans are established, implemented, and modified as necessary to meet the individual athlete needs as well as the agreed upon philosophies and plans.

Operational Excellence

  1. Establish and execute an annual and long-term sport plan that provides for an athlete-focused approach for success at every level.

  2. Lead coaches, technicians, and other sport support in implementing the annual plan against the agreed-upon goals and objectives.

  3. Coordination with the Sports Science Department on all team support (PTs, Doctors, Strength & Conditioning, Nutrition, Sports Psychologists) at all preparation and competition projects. Ensure that all members of the staff understand and follow the policies and procedures for dealing with athlete injury and rehabilitation.

  4. Strong knowledge of FIS and U.S. Ski & Snowboard competition rules and process.

  5. Work with the Freestyle staff to establish selection criteria and process for the following levels:

    1. National Team

    2. NorAms

    3. FIS Jr World Championships

    4. World Cup

    5. World Championships

    6. Olympic Winter Games

  6. Collaborate with Freestyle Development Manager on project planning to ensure details are in place for elite performance at camps and competitions.

  7. Collaborate with the Freestyle Sport Director regarding overall direction of program, future strategies, challenges, budget, and long-term planning.

  8. Benchmark our programs and performance against other nations and constantly evaluate our programs to ensure athletic success.

  9. Work proactively with other organizational departments to ensure needs and requirements for the program are being delivered.

  10. Active role in relevant USSS and FIS Committees and activities to ensure direction of sport globally aligns with domestic priorities.

  11. In coordination with the Freestyle Sport Director, Mogul Head Coach, and Freestyle Development Manger establish a Talent ID Philosophy and program

  12. Establish a strategic plan to implement Talent ID program at regional/divisional level

  13. Conduct education with clubs, academies, regional programs, etc., on Talent ID philosophy

  14. Implement projects and camps with identified athletes including Project Gold

  15. Communicate with domestic freestyle programs on a regular basis and assist in continuing to strategically grow and develop club programs in the U.S.

  16. Work with Freestyle Sport Director in developing and coordinating with coaches' education department on coaches’ clinics

  17. Assist in re-developing curriculum for coaching clinics: Levels 50, 100, 200, 300

  18. Execute coaches’ clinics for developing club programs throughout the U.S.

Financial Performance

  1. Plan and execute an agreed upon budget that focuses resources on the execution of the athletic plan.

  2. Management expenses for each project and/or event.

  3. Ensure that operational plans are compatible with available budget.

  1. Incumbents must be able to lift up to 25 pounds (50 with assistance), climb, stand, stoop and work outside in all weather conditions. Job requires travel and work on weekends, nights, holidays and on-call basis.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Direct supervision of the following positions:

    1. Mogul Development Coaches – (full-time and seasonal contracts)

    2. Project Gold Coaches - (camp contract)

    3. PT’s / ATC’s / Dr’s at camps and events (seasonal contracts)
