USA Basketball is a nonprofit organization and the national governing body for men’s and women’s basketball in the United States. The organization is made up of several organizations and is recognized as the governing body for basketball in the United States by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC). USA Basketball is responsible for the selection, training, and fielding of the U.S. teams that compete in FIBA-sponsored international basketball competitions and certain national competitions; for the development of youth basketball initiatives that address player development; and for coach education and safety. The organization fields teams for U16 and U18 FIBA Americas Championships, U17 and U19 FIBA World Championships, the World University Games, Pan American Games, FIBA World Championships, and the Olympics. It selects and trains Men’s and Women’s national teams from age 16 through the professional ranks. USA Basketball was founded in 1972 and is based in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
