Who We Are

We are Tennis! The USTA (United States Tennis Association) is the national governing body for the sport of tennis and the leader in promoting and developing the sport’s growth on every level in the United States, from local communities to the crown jewel of the professional game, the US Open.

Why Intern with the USTA?
We are a passionate team of staff and volunteers focused on growing the sport of tennis and making it accessible to all. We are committed to removing barriers and crafting opportunities for ALL to participate. Don’t know tennis? Don't worry, you can still find yourself in the game!

The Role
As an intern, you will work side by side with experienced security professionals, gaining firsthand exposure to the complex operational planning required for a global sporting event. You will assist in reviewing, evaluating, and refining key components of our security and medical response plans and, if aligned with timing and progress, may have the opportunity to observe elements of these plans in action. This is a unique chance to develop practical skills in event security, emergency preparedness, and operational risk management.

  • Assist in reviewing, assessing, and refining security and medical deployment plans for the US Open
  • Participate in risk assessments, site planning, and threat-mitigation discussions
  • Support the development of emergency response procedures and operational documentation
  • Collaborate with the Security team on planning meetings, logistics coordination, and strategy sessions
  • Research best practices in event security, crowd management, and emergency preparedness
  • Help analyze previous event data to identify improvements and enhance operational efficiency
  • Observe elements of on-site security operations (if timing and access allow) to understand real-world execution

Program details:

  • 8-week program from June 9 through August 11

  • Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM ET

  • Hybrid role requiring 3 days per week on-site at the BJK National Tennis Center.

  • Compensation: $20.00 per hour

Who You Are

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Homeland Security, Intelligence, Criminal Justice, or a related field

  • Detail-oriented, motivated, and eager to learn from hands-on experience

  • Strong communicator with the ability to work collaboratively

  • Interested in large-scale event security, emergency management, or public safety

What the Program Offers
As an intern, you will fully immerse yourself in the USTA culture and be a true part of the team! During the program, you will have the opportunity to network with Senior Leadership- including the CEO- as well as be mentored by current staff. Additionally, you can look forward to:

  • Weekly professional development workshops.
  • Participation in a group project which will be presented to staff at the end of the program.
  • Opportunity to have your resume reviewed by one of our recruiters
  • Ability to participate in company activities, including our 7 Business Resource Groups.
  • And more!
