The Washington Spirit is seeking a Social Media Coordinator who will play a key role in driving the Washington Spirit’s real-time content strategy, with a focus on short-form, vertical video platforms. This individual is deeply immersed in digital culture and brings a strong instinct for capturing and producing engaging, in-the-moment content that resonates with fans and amplifies the club’s brand.
This role requires a fast-paced, creative thinker who thrives in live environments, can quickly identify and act on trends, and is passionate about storytelling through social media. The Social Media Coordinator will collaborate cross-functionally with players, marketing, communications, and the in-house content team to deliver dynamic, high-performing content that supports audience growth, engagement, and revenue opportunities.
The Social Media Coordinator will:
- Capture, edit, and publish high-energy, vertical video content from practices, games, and events in real time
- Produce platform-native content optimized for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts
- Stay ahead of emerging trends, viral moments, and platform updates across social media
- Quickly adapt content strategies to align with trending formats, audio, and fan behavior
- Manage day-to-day execution of the club’s TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and GIPHY channels
- Ensure content is optimized for each platform’s technical and creative best practices
- Identify and execute new content ideas, challenges, and meme formats to keep the club’s social presence fresh and engaging
- Contribute to content planning and brainstorming sessions with the broader content team
- Provide comprehensive, real-time social coverage of matchdays, training sessions, and community events
- Capture the energy, personality, and behind-the-scenes moments that bring fans closer to the team
- Work closely with players and internal stakeholders to create authentic and compelling content
- Partner with marketing and communications teams to ensure consistency in voice, messaging, and brand standards
The ideal candidate has:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Media, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 1–3 years of experience managing or contributing to social media accounts (internships included)
- Strong understanding of social media platforms, trends, and best practices
- Proven experience creating short-form video and platform-native content
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro; After Effects is a plus)
- Strong copywriting skills with the ability to adapt tone and voice across platforms
- Highly organized with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced, live-event environment
- Passion for soccer and understanding of the sport’s culture and fanbase
Location:
This role is primarily based at our Falls Church, VA office and Training Facility in Leesburg, VA. Our front office team follows a hybrid arrangement.
