Job description
To join the World Aquatics team in Lausanne, Switzerland. The position will relocate with the planned move to Budapest, Hungary.
Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Coordinator for Swimming to join the Sports Department supporting sport governance and technical administration in the dynamic world of competitive swimming.
This position combines technical expertise, strategic planning, and sport administration to help implement and run all aspects of the sport for World Aquatics. It involves overseeing technical governance, ensuring compliance with rules, and managing the delivery of competitions while maintaining a structured and internationally consistent approach to the sport. The Sport Coordinator will also help drive the vision for swimming, promoting growth, excellence, and innovation to elevate the sport on a global stage.
Reporting to the Sports Director and Senior Sports Manager, while also working in close collaboration with the Sports Event Director and Chief of Sport, the Sport Coordinator will support the management and implementation of sport regulations. Key responsibilities include overseeing rules and regulations, facilities and equipment, coordinating with the Technical Committees and technical officials—including their development pathways—maintaining the World Calendar, records, and rankings, and managing qualifications and sport entries. The Sport Coordinator will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the sport is delivered efficiently, fairly, and in full compliance with established standards.
The role serves as a vital bridge between our international sports federation, athletes, national and continental federations, and the global sports community. It requires a dedicated professional who can uphold the federation’s commitment to excellence, integrity, and global promotion of aquatic sports (and swimming) through world-class competitions and events.
As part of the development opportunities for the successful candidate, there will be the potential to take on the technical management responsibilities for select World Aquatics’ junior and World Cup swimming competitions.
Key Responsibilities:
• Competition Rules and Regulations: Assist in managing swimming relevant rules and regulations, including implementing updates, as required.
• Facilities and sport equipment: Coordinate the certification of swimming facilities and equipment and monitor advancements in sports facilities, equipment, and competitive practices.
• Technical Committee Support: Provide comprehensive assistance to the Technical Swimming Committee and Referees and Officials Committee, including competition duties, research, technical delegation, and meeting preparation.
• Technical Officials’ Management: Coordinate and oversee technical officials’ pathways, from nominations and evaluations through assignments, while managing their technical and logistical requirements at international competitions.
• Qualifications and Entries: Provide support for the administration of qualifications and entries in World Aquatics and other major swimming competitions.
• World Calendar: Support the management of the World Aquatics calendar and qualifying events, ensuring competitions are sanctioned under the applicable regulations.
• Swimming Rankings and Records: Collaborate with the GMS and Results Team within World Aquatics staff to ensure swimming rankings and results are accurately maintained, and oversee the ratification of records.
• International Relations: Foster relationship with national federations, continental federations, and major international competition organisers.
• Reporting: Facilitate post-event technical evaluations to assess the standard of competition and help inform planning and improvements for future events.
Profile required
Experience & Skills:
• 3+ years of experience in swimming administration, preferably at the national, continental or international level.
• Demonstrated experience working with technical officials, committees, or sport governance bodies.
• Practical experience in swimming competition management, entries, qualifying systems, rankings, or results.
• Strong knowledge of swimming competition rules and applicable regulatory frameworks.
• Exposure to facility and equipment certification processes and broader compliance requirements is an asset.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Excellent organisational, coordination, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Complete business fluency in English (both written and oral). Other language skills are a plus.
• Willingness and availability to travel internationally to events.
• Flexibility to work outside standard business hours and on weekends, as required by the international competition calendar.
Start Date: Q2 2026
Location: Lausanne, Switzerland. The position will relocate with the planned move to Budapest, Hungary. All applicants must be willing to relocate to Budapest.
