Job Summary

The Lead Applications Developer is responsible for supervising the applications development team within the Technology & Data division. This position will perform code reviews, lead software releases, while developing a deep understanding of all USA Swimming software applications. The Lead Applications Developer will collaborate with the Senior Advisor of Product to lead requirements discovery meetings with developers, ensure appropriate tasks are detailed and estimates are in place for all proposed work orders. Additionally, this position is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software applications to meet the business needs of USA Swimming. The Lead Applications Developer requires proficient understanding of JavaScript, React, Microsoft Web APIs, Entity Framework, C#, ASP.NET Core, Git source control, MVC architecture, Microsoft Transact-SQL, with the ability to communicate effectively and work well in a team atmosphere.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Participates in the systems development life cycle with solution design, development, implementation, and production support.
  • Leads software code reviews, code cleanup initiatives, and code improvement initiatives.
  • Guide and mentor development teams, ensuring efficient code development and adherence to development guidelines and patterns.
  • Collaborates with Senior Advisor of Product to ensure release schedule, requirements documentation, and DevOps organization meet the needs of the software developers.
  • Interacts with business subject matter experts to understand and document business requirements and proactively provides ideas and solutions towards the improvement of the business and related project.
  • Analyzes business requirements and transforms them into a technical design.
  • Employs React/JavaScript, MS Web APIs, and Microsoft Visual Studio application development technologies (C#, ASP.NET, T-SQL, Stored Procedures) to develop custom applications.
  • Administers application code in the development, staging, and production environments.
  • Uses Azure DevOps to manage source code and the Agile development lifecycle.
  • Ability to collaborate and integrate with third party vendors including, but not limited to, The Center for Safe Sport, Canvas, team management software, and meet management software.
  • Participates in architectural design discussions.

Other Duties:

  • Travel, as needed, to USA Swimming Headquarters.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Required Skills & Abilities:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related field, or equivalent years of experience.
  • 3 – 5 years of experience in front-end software development using JavaScript and React.
  • 5 – 8 years of back-end software development experience, with majority of experience using Microsoft Visual Studio development technologies (ASP.NET Core, C#, Model-view-controller, T-SQL, SQL Server, Stored Procedures, MS Web APIs, and Azure).
  • Experience in test-driven development.
  • Experience and solid working knowledge of JSON, CSS, HTML.
  • Experience in supervising a team preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel up to 5% of the year.
  • Must be able to lift ten (10) pounds.
  • This position is open to remote, hybrid or in-office working arrangements. The USA Swimming headquarters office is in Colorado Springs, CO; occasional travel to CO required for remote workers upon request/need.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Salary range for this position is $120,000 – $140,000 annually.
  • Bonus Eligibility: Based on company performance, this position may be eligible for an annual bonus target of 10%.
